Let me just tell you right now: I’m on episode 11. It’s not halfway because it’s so addicting and I don’t want to stop, but at least I’m spending the time right now to write a “halfway” impression (even if it isn’t exactly halfway).
Before I begin, here’s a brief summary: Gong Xi and Shang have been together since like forever. Gong Xi’s mom abandoned her, so Shang’s parents kindly took her in. She felt as if she was useless- that’s why she thinks her mom left her- and to prove her usefulness, she tried to be the perfect child for Shang’s parents. Shang’s parents loved her and wanted Shang to marry her, but Gong Xi was not aware. Shang does not love her, calls her an “old-fashioned girl” and treats her like a maid. When he asks her to leave the village, she is the happiest girl (because he chose her), but in reality he just wanted to escape the marriage. He becomes a great star and as his fame increases, Gong Xi becomes less of a priority to him. She works three jobs to pay for everything, while he merely lives off of her. She cares for him so much that she does not see the evil that he really is. He even prevents her from going to college. He takes away her youth while he becomes a shining artist. One day, Gong Xi over hears Shang talking poorly behind her back. From then on, she vows for vengeance; she is determined to become a more successful actress. This is when Qin and Lian come into play. Gong Xi meets Qin at a audition at L.M.E, a huge arts company, to become a new actress. Lian is even more famous than Shang and motivates her to do better.
here’s what i think so far…
The actors/actresses are perfect for each role- couldn’t imagine it any other way. Although, I haven’t seen the manga version, I love how the director added the cartoons- especially the spirits that pop out around Gong Xi’s head- which makes it cute and comedic-like. A lot of the actors/actresses seem relatively knew; I’ve never seen them in other movies, but they are fantastic. If this is their debut, I’m impressed (because I definitely know what I’m talking about). My favorite parts are their facial expressions. It’s all serious and the next moment they have the funniest facial expressions that actually make you LOL. It’s so awkward when you start laughing and you realize that you are home alone ;/
Gotta love the attractive people… always, always, always a PLUS. Two KOREAN members of Super Junior (Si Won and Dong Hae) in a TAIWANESE drama = dream. come. true. That makes me that much closer to them… since they understand chinese (I hope). They are dubbed, so in reality they are speaking Korean, while the others reply in Chinese… unless Si Won and Dong Hae are speaking to each other. In the beginning, I thought Dong Hae wasn’t that amazing, but the more I see him, he’s just getting hotter every second. Si Won was always beautiful… And Ivy (Gong Xi) has huge eyes- a dream of mine that will never come true. She’s so beautiful. The last time I watched her was in Hear Me, and she definitely improved! Hope to see her in more dramas. She’s adorable.
Can such beautiful people exist?
Contrast between friendship and hatred. The best part was when Gong Xi finally got through to Qin. Qin was cold and I disliked he character a lot at first, but Gong Xi grew on her. They are such good friends now and are actually supportive. Not the support like “OMG thanks for being there when my boyfriend and I broke up.” that’s BS. These two pals are sincere and talk everything through. They are each others’ support system <3. Hatred is obviously Gong Xi and Shang. IT adds suspense and it’s funny. Not the typical plots of vengeance. It’s actually amusing.
